4.2.7. Check of degree of wear of brake shoes, disks and drums

Note
Check a condition of working surfaces of a brake disk without removal it from the car.

It will be required to you: a key for bolts of wheels, the screw-driver, a caliper.
1. Remove a wheel.
2. Clear a brake disk.
3. Measure a caliper disk thickness. Minimum admissible thickness of a disk is 17,8 mm (tab. 4.2). If thickness of a disk is less, replace it (see. "Removal and installation of a brake disk of a forward wheel").

Table 4.2 Maximum permissible sizes of brake shoes, disks and drums

Good advice
We recommend to replace brake disks along with both parties.

4. Examine a disk. In the presence рисок the disk can be removed and proshlifovat, but taking into account that its final thickness was not less admissible.
5. The screw-driver check ease of movement of blocks in a support. Make sure that they do not clamp a brake disk.
6. Check through an opening in the case of a brake bracket a condition of blocks. If thickness of frictional slips is less admissible (see tab. 4.2), replace brake shoes (see. "Replacement of brake shoes of the brake mechanism of a forward wheel").

Note
At uneven wear of a slip or unequal wear of overlays of one brake mechanism replace all support assembled or working cylinders (see. "Removal and installation of the working cylinder of the forward brake mechanism").

7. For check of degree of wear of brake shoes of the back brake mechanism remove a wheel and the brake drum (see. "Removal and installation of the brake drum of a back wheel").
8. Measure thickness of frictional slips by a caliper or a ruler.

Recommendations
Replace blocks in the following cases:
– thickness of slips is less than 1,5 mm;
– the surface of slips is greasy;
– slips are unsteadily connected to the basis.

9. Measure diameter of a working surface of the brake drum. If it is more admissible (see tab. 4.2), replace a drum (see. "Removal and installation of the brake drum of a back wheel").
